Logic: “I Have a Power That a Lot of People In This World Don’t”

Unlike many his peers, Logic understands that with great power also comes great responsibility.

In an interview with VIBE following his stirring performance “1-800-273-8255” at the 60th Annual GRAMMY Awards this past Sunday evening in New York City, the Def Jam MC honed in on what he believes to be his mission and his purpose.

“I’m not Tupac, or this prophetic dude or anything like that, I just want to make music and have fun,” Logic said. “However, I have a power that a lot people in this world don’t, and I’ve been given a stage that the one percent get. I thought if I was going to have this power, I’d use it for positivity – peace love and positivity to spread a positive message. Everyone is beautiful, and the world isn’t equal – and we need to fight towards that.”

Earlier in the interview, Logic revealed that it was the Recording Academy who asked him to give a speech at the conclusion his performance, which he confirmed was written prior to the show and even underwent last-minute revisions.

Though Logic didn't win either the awards he received nominations for (Song the Year, Best Music Video), the pround effect that “1-800-273-8255” has had on suicide prevention awareness has him rightfully feeling like a winner. According to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, since Logic's hit single was released last April, both call volume and traffic to their website have dramatically increased.

“I always thought a song over trap beats or something a clubby or happy vibe would get me on that stage, so I can’t believe a] song I made from a place in my heart to my fans and anybody who can reach and the fact that it reached them, it’s crazy,” he told VIBE. “I feel like I won.”
