The dynamic pairing Detroit producer Apollo Brown and rapper Locksmith has already treated fans to “No Question,” the lead single from their upcoming project the same name. Now, they've rolled out the second single from their new project, “Litmus.”
Locksmith unloads a lyrical attack on the soulful, old-school reminiscent production, courtesy Brown, as Locksmith spits, “I rap to a higher quota, I am bolder/Don't put me next to guys you hold up.” Lock's lyrical precision is on full display on “Litmus” as he rides solo with no hook or assistance until the song's end.
“The music speaks for itself, No Question. It’s just good hip-hop, period.” Apollo Brown tells Billboard. “Every track came alive when Lock got in the booth and he literally spit with no paper, no cell phone, no Etch A Sketch — just pure memory. And I’ve been a fan this man’s mind for a minute. His thought process is crazy and I finally got the chance to put it to music.”
Lock added, “It was so refreshing to have such an incredible producer to provide the landscape for my perspective. The lyrics literally wrote themselves once I heard the tracks.”
Apollo and Locksmith's collaborative project, No Questions, will be released on June 15.
