Lizzo Teams Up With Missy Elliott For Empowering New Track ‘Tempo’: Listen

71

Lizzo has unleashed the third single ahead of her anticipated Cuz I Love You album, set to be released next month (April 19). The Houston-bred artist connects with the legendary Missy Elliott for their debut collaboration "Tempo," which served as Zane Lowe's World Record on Beats 1 Wednesday (March 20).

"Tempo" sets the tone with an aggressive guitar lick, as Missy gets you ready for the avalanche to come. "I've been waitin' for this one/ Turn it up," she says. Lizzo then flips the track into an ode to curvaceous women. "Boyfriend watchin', oh now he wanna knuckle up/ Get on this ride, baby, you gon' have to buckle up/ Thick thighs save lives, call me little buttercup/ All means necessary/ My ass is not an accessory," the Atlantic Records signee raps.

Elliott returns to have some fun of her own with the nostalgia-filled record. "All the fly girls head to the dance floor/ Kitty cat, kitty cat, prrr/ All the thick girls down on the flrrr/ Ice on my neck like brrr/ I'm big-boned with nice curves/ Look at me, I know I look grrrd," the Grammy-winning icon rhymes, making sure to roll her Rs properly.

Lizzo has showed off quite the range of her artistic ability within the album's first three singles. "Tempo" follows "Cuz I Love You" and "Juice" in the pipeline, which were both released earlier in 2019.

She also paid homage to Missy for inspiring her to pursue music with a touching post to social media. "You made this chubby, weird, black girl believe that ANYTHING was possible. And now we have a BANGER together," Lizzo wrote. "Till this day you continue to inspire me to make my dreams come true. Now go fuck it up to the #TEMPO and STREAM OUR SONG!!!! Love You."
