Welcome to #TBT Mixtape, Billboard's series that showcases artists' very own throwback-themed playlists exclusive to Billboard's Spotify account. The curated set features the artists' favorite tracks from their youth and childhood.
This week's spin comes from Børns. The indie pop singer-songwriter feted the release his sophomore LP, Blue Madonna, in January Interscope Records, which featured a collaboration with labelmate Lana Del Rey and followed his 2015 debut Dopamine. The artist (born Garrett Clark Borns) is currently in the midst a headlining tour that will run through the fall, with stops on the festival circuit this summer at Lollapalooza (Aug. 3), Osheaga (Aug. 5), and San Francisco's Outside Lands (Aug. 12) and select dates alongside Twin Shadow.
Below, the “Electric Love” singer looks back with this week's #TBT Mixtape, featuring The Beach Boys, The Zombies, Elton John and more.
“This collection songs are embedded in my musical DNA. I found a busted up Walkman on the side the road and played the hell out Bee Gees cassettes and danced in my room to Prince records,” he says. “Every week, when I was 10, I went to an art studio to paint, and doo-wop groups like The Marvelettes would play on 'Oldies 98.3' my favorite radio station at the time. I learned all the words to those songs and would pound them out on piano at all hours the night. These artists were my teachers and truly sparked my passion for music as a kid. Hope you enjoy this tender loving sonic time capsule.”
