Lil Wayne Gets Blown Away By His Own ‘Lollipop (Remix)' Lyrics

Considering the size of Lil Wayne’s discography, it’s no wonder he forgets his lyrics from time to time.

During his recent Fox Sports interview alongside the NFL’s Darren Waller, presenter Darnell Smith read out a couple of lines from the official “Lollipop” remix containing some of his favorite Weezy lyrics of all-time. However, the Young Money rapper had no idea they were actually his own bars.

“Safe sex is great sex, better wear a latex,” Smith relayed. “‘Cause you don’t want that late text, that ‘I think I’m late text.”

Lil Wayne was amazed at the quality of the lyrics and had to double-check he actually said them himself.

“Oh fuck!” he said. “I said that?! I don’t know when I said it or why I said it, but I said it.”

“Lollipop” featuring Static Major peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2008 and was named the year’s best-selling digital single in the world by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. The remix included an opening verse from Kanye West and new lyrics from Wayne.

During an episode of Apple Music’s Young Money Radio in May 2020, Lil Wayne admitted he searches his lyrics on Google to make sure isn’t repeating himself. Eminem, who appeared on the episode, revealed he also does the same thing.

“If you look in my phone history, with Google history, and you press the letter L, it comes up, ‘Lil Wayne lyrics,’” Wayne said at the time. “I literally have to Google my own lyrics to make sure I didn’t say certain stuff before.”

Em added, “Oh my God! I swear to God I do that too! I just did that shit last night. Man, that’s funny as hell. I been doing that for the past five years! You be like, ‘Oh, I knew I flipped this before.’ It’s crazy because when you’re really into the craft you gotta come up with a new pocket, a new cadence, melodies. You can’t do the same flows, none of that.”
