Lil Tjay appears to be in good spirits after being discharged from the hospital following his near-fatal shooting earlier this year.

A photo of the Bronx-bred rapper circulated online on Wednesday (August 3) showing him smiling in a car while on a group FaceTime call with some friends. It’s unclear when he was released from hospital exactly.

It’s the first known picture of Lil Tjay since the 21-year-old was shot multiple times outside a Chipotle restaurant in Edgewater, New Jersey shortly after midnight on June 22.

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, a 27-year-old man named Mohamed Konate attempted to rob Tjay and his two friends, Antoine Boyd and Jeffrey Valdez, while they were seated in a Dodge Durango near the Promenade shopping center.

Konate was arrested roughly a month after the shooting on July 22 and is currently being held in Rikers Island as he awaits extradition to New Jersey.

Konate allegedly fired near-fatal shots at Tjay, striking him in the thoracic cavity, while suffering gunshot wounds himself during the robbery attempt. The “Zoo York” rapper was reportedly unconscious for several days after undergoing emergency.

Konate has been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder, while two other suspects each face second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon charges.

Lil Tjay’s most recent album, Destined 2 Win, arrived in April 2021. The project — home to Billboard Hot 100 hits such as the 6LACK-assisted “Calling My Phone” and “Headshot” featuring Polo G and Fivio Foreign — debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 after moving 62,000 total album-equivalent units in its first week.
