‘League Of Legends’ Announces Virtual Hip-Hop Collective With Becky G, Keke Palmer, (G)I-dle’s Soyeon

True Damage includes Becky G, Soyeon of K-pop girl group (G)I-dle, Keke Palmer, Duckwrth, and Thutmose.

Last year, K/DA made headlines as League of Legends’ fierce new virtual girl group. Now Riot Games is launching another in-game musical act: the hip-hop collective True Damage.

Featuring Becky G, Soyeon of K-pop girl group (G)I-dle, Keke Palmer, Duckwrth, and Thutmose, True Damage features League of Legends’ characters Qianna, Akali, Senna, Ekko, and Yasuo. New skins for the five champions will become available on November 10, the same day they’ll perform their new song “Giants” at the opening ceremony of this year’s championships in Paris.

True Damage marks the return of Soyeon’s voice to League of Legends, as she previously was featured as the voice of Akali in K/DA’s “Pop/Stars.” That song also featured the voices of (G)I-dle’s Miyeon, Jaira Burns, and Madison Beer, and grew to be a huge viral hit that topped the World Digital Song Sales chart last November and has seen over 270 million views on YouTube for its music video.

According to Riot Games, True Damage is the brainchild of Akali after she was “given creative control by her label to start her own hip hop record imprint” and she formed “a collective of artists with their own unique and individual styles who join forces.”

Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, designed special skins — in-game outfits — for Qiyana and Senna.

“When League of Legends was released ten years ago, none of us could imagine the cultural phenomenon that it has become,” says Jessica Nam, lead producer for League of Legends  a statement. “Now it’s clear that gaming sits at the center of pop culture, and we couldn’t be more proud to partner with such great talent to showcase what League represents to the world.”

A teaser video for the project began circulating on social media yesterday (Oct. 28) ahead of the announcement by Riot Games today (Oct. 29). Check it out below.
