It's very exciting for up-and-coming artists like Rosalía, Sech, Lunay, Darell, Paulo Londra and Jhay Cortez to be nominated for the first time at the Latin American Music Awards, and they're all up for the once-in-a-lifetime award for new artist of the year.
The 2019 Latin AMAs nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including sales, streaming and social activity, according to Billboard's analysis through their data allies Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound, covering the period from Aug. 10, 2018, to July 25, 2019. The awards will be broadcast live on Telemundo from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at 8 p.m. ET.
Meet all the new artist contenders below:
Born Carlos Isaias Morales Williams, Sech has garnered the attention of established artists such as Nicky Jam and Maluma. This year, he scored his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart with “Otro Trago” on the Aug. 10-dated tally.
Rosalía has captivated everyone with her flamenco pop style and venturing into urban music, collaborating with J Balvin and Ozuna.
After hitting the chart as part of the “Te Boté” remix in 2018, Darell is back atop Hot Latin Songs with “Otro Trago” alongside Sech. He has also collaborated with Farruko, Bryatiago and Emilia (to name a few).
Paulo Londra debuted on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart thanks to his collaboration “Cuando Te Besé” alongside Becky G.
At only the age of 18, Lunay has achieved what many others dream of, including seeing his name for the first time on the Billboard charts and having a song with Daddy Yankee and Bad Bunny.
Jhay Cortez's album Famouz debuted at No. 11 on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart dated June 8.
