Since releasing a series of new singles in September and January, Lana Del Rey’s fans have been clamoring to hear more new music from the indie pop icon. While the star may not be giving fans exactly what they want, she is giving them a taste of something.
On Wednesday (May 15), Del Rey posted a teaser trailer for the upcoming documentary Sublime, a film following the story of the eponymous '90s trio. In the clip, the singer can be heard performing a cover of the trio’s song “Doin’ Time,” which borrows from the classic George Gershwin song “Summertime.”
The star didn’t add anything more than she needed to, simply adding the lyrics “Summertime and the livin’s easy” and tagging the band’s page. This isn’t the first time Del Rey has teased the song — in a post earlier this month, the singer posted a 30-second clip of her singing the song’s opening, simply saying “Coming soon.”
Sublime premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April to mixed reviews from critics. Directed by Bill Guttentag and produced by Interscope Films, the film follows the group’s meteoric rise to the edge of mainstream success and their subsequent fall following the death of frontman Bradley Nowell.
