Kyle Watson and Stace Cadet Bring Wobbly-Bass Groove to ‘Safe’: Exclusive

If you hear some funk bass grooves bumpin' from Johanessburg, Kyle Watson might be responsible. The South African DJ and producer has dropped some serious heat on Dirtybird, Ultra Records, and This Ain't Bristol, while his funkadelic sound has landed him remixes for Rudimental, Zhu, Justin Martin and others. Today (Aug. 7), he gives us a real gem for the clubs all his own, with a little help from his friend, Australian singer Stace Cadet.

It starts with a playful, filtered synth run and melts into a wonky background of sound as Cadet adds his unique touch. His uniquely-coy rasp lays one helluva infectious melody over Watson's wild beat, and when the instrumental hook kicks in, we take deep, delicious dive into that wobbly bass.

"When I sent the first instrumental over to Stace for the vocal, I definitely wasn't expecting what he sent back to me," Watson tells Billboard Dance. "The vocal he injected into the track gives it such a unique feel, and it's now a standout in my sets."

"Safe" is out Thursday, Aug. 8, on Atlantic Records, but you can get addicted to it a day early, exclusively on Billboard Dance.
