A sole firefly greets Chinese-Canadian singer Kris Wu in his latest music video for “Like That.” Solo music has been the contemporary R&B artist’s recent venture, after leaving the South Korean-Chinese boy band EXO and teaming up with American rappers like Travis Scott and Trippie Redd.
In “Like That,” Wu lusts over a girl, portrayed by model Stella Maxwell, who lights his fire and he contemplates her worth to him: “Tell me if we take a chance like that/ Got me spending all my cash like that.” Bright red and orange hues dance around the room the party, and shimmer f the sequin dress the object his affection is wearing.
His eyes glow as his pupils turn orange, but the girl he croons about in contemplation during the second verse switches up the aesthetic to cooler tones while Wu is at a pool party. He sits atop a white house wearing a millennial pink two-piece set, looking down on the crowd with lime green and purple hair.
Toward the end the video, he sings, “Turn me up like a fire/ Heat me up, burn me up like a lighter,” as Wu and his dream girl are accompanied by all types fiery objects: a car’s exhaust engine, a lighter, a forest fire and the same firefly from the beginning the clip.
