Krept & Konan's "Ban Drill" is a socio-political look at what artists go through

Krept & Konan made history some years ago as they became the only rap duo with two mixtapes (7 DAYS and 7 NIGHTS,) simultaneously on the Top 10 of the Official UK Albums chart and have gone on to perform at countless festivals and events. Today the duo is making another mark with the release of a short film alongside the single “Ban Drill”. The solemn record was produced by AdotSkitz (Stormzy, French Montana, Skepta) who laces the duo with a dark moody backdrop while they share interwoven stories of urban life and the challenges the characters they speak about face every day of their lives. The duo adds that the song was written to shed light on the plight of drill artists in the UK who are subjugated by the recent action by the UK government/police to profile them under the guise of trying to reduce violent crime.

The accompanying short film, directed by Roc Nation’s recent signing Rapman (Shiro’s Story), is an emotional journey into the reality of a marginalized youth, largely demonized and forgotten by authorities, for whom making music provides a ‘way out’. Filmed in various London locations, the short film features cameo appearances from artists such as Dig Dat, Headie OneUnknown T, D Block Europe and K Trap, in addition to internet sensation Likkleman and actors Gerrome Stafia (who plays the lead role of Jayden in the short film), Malcolm Kamulete (Top Boy) Judith Jacob (EastEnders) and Tiffany Brown (Shiro’s Story).

To mark the release of  “Ban Drill” and to drive home its message Krept & Konan have launched a petition in collaboration with Change.org asking the Crown Prosecution Service to stop the Police from being able to Ban Drill music by using the Serious Crime Act to prosecute artists.
