Kim Kardashian hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time on October 10, 2021. Her opening monologue drew large praise from critics and she starred in numerous skits throughout the SNL episode.

During Thursday’s (April 20) episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, Kardashian provided a behind-the-scenes look at how she got ready for SNL, which included her turning to established comedians Dave Chappelle, Michelle Wolf and even paying Amy Schumer a visit to help work on her monologue.

Kardashian admitted she wanted to be mindful of Kanye West’s feelings and keep just one Yeezy-related joke when it came to their divorce, so she decided to leave a few digs on the cutting room floor.

“I don’t want too many Kanye jokes, like one,” she said. “So there’s two or three in here so I think I’m gonna take this one out. This one’s from Michelle Wolf […] The divorce is so sensitive for him. I’m already saying that part in the monologue, I don’t want to like — maybe I could talk to Chris and think of something funny. I could just tell him, ‘Hey! This is super sensitive to him.’”

Kardashian’s monologue credited Kanye included a few compliments for her ex-husband, but she went on to joke that the divorce came down to his “personality.”

“I married the best rapper of all time,” she said. “Not only that, he’s the richest Black man in America,” she said. “A talented, legit genius who gave me four incredible kids. So, when I divorced him, you have to know it came down to one thing: his personality.”

Kim Kardashian’s SNL appearance led to her dating cast member Pete Davidson later in 2021, which also upset Ye so he started a feud with Davidson.

Two other jokes Kardashian decided to leave out poked fun at R. Kelly’s legal troubles and sister Khloé Kardashian’s turbulent relationship with NBA player Tristan Thompson.

“If R. Kelly dressed like me, he may have stayed out of trouble,” she said. “Khloé, you have the biggest heart. It’s big enough for Tristan [Thompson] and all of his side-pieces.”
