NBC and dick clark productions announced Tuesday (April 9) the star-studded first round of performers for the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, coming up Wednesday, May 1, on NBC. Kelly Clarkson, Lauren Daigle, Khalid, Panic! at the Disco, Sam Smith and Normani will all take the stage to perform their hits.
Four-time 2019 BBMA nominee Panic! at the Disco and Daigle will both perform at the awards show for their first time. Panic! is up for four nominations this year, including top duo/group, top rock artist, top rock album and top rock song. The band's smash hit "High Hopes" peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and grabbed the top spot on a number of charts, including the Alternative Songs airplay chart, Hot Rock Songs and the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart. Daigle is a BBMA veteran, with two previous wins and three nominations this year.
While Normani and Khalid took the Billboard stage together in 2018 for a sexy performance of their collab "Love Lies," the two will return separately this year. The former Fifth Harmony songstress will join three-time BBMA winner Smith for a live rendition of their hit "Dancing With a Stranger." Khalid, who recently dropped his sophomore album, Free Spirit, will take the stage to perform one of his new jams.
Five-time BBMA nominee Clarkson will also be hosting the ceremony for the second year in a row. Last year, she treated the BBMAs with a performance of her tune “Whole Lotta Woman.” Catch the three-hour telecast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Wednesday, May 1, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
