The festival had been held in Del Mar since 2015.

One of coastal California’s largest music festivals is moving into the heart of the Golden State’s second biggest city.

After five years at the Del Mar fairgrounds in north San Diego County, the organizers of KAABOO, which wraps its 2019 edition tonight with a set by Mumford and Sons have signed a multi-year agreement with the San Diego Padres to move the popular SoCal festival to Petco Park in downtown San Diego.

The move takes the multi-state, multi-sensory festival 20 miles south, from the sleepy beach town of Del Mar to one of San Diego's most lively districts including the nearby Gaslamp Quarter. It also greatly expands the number of hotel rooms available to attendees and runs along the same coastal Amtrak Surfliner train route as the Del Mar fairgrounds, connecting L.A. and Santa Barbara with San Diego.

The Sept. 18-20 festival will be renamed KAABOO San Diego and include a mix of music, comedy, art and culinary fare in its sixth year as one of Southern California’s largest festivals.

“As the KAABOO brand and our live event properties continue to grow and evolve, it’s imperative that we continue to deliver an unparalleled experience for our guests by holding KAABOO in a world-class venue with exceptional room for growth,” says Jason Felts, managing partner of KAABOO, in a statement. “The location of Petco Park and its surrounding venues in downtown San Diego provides fans and artists alike the opportunity to enjoy everything that the vibrant metro area has to offer. We couldn’t be more ecstatic about this partnership and our relocation.”

Erik Greupner, Padres president of business operations added, “As part of the continued expansion of our concert and events lineup, we are extremely excited to welcome one of the largest and most successful festival experiences in the country, KAABOO San Diego, to Petco Park. Our venue and the downtown Ballpark District offer the perfect setting for an event of this magnitude and further establishes Petco Park as the premier entertainment destination in Southern California. We look forward to hosting an unforgettable and amazing weekend in the heart of downtown.”

KAABOO San Diego will utilize various areas inside of, and surrounding the perimeter of, Petco Park, including the playing field, Sycuan Stage at the Park, Lexus Premier Lot, and the stadium's tailgate lot.

In celebration of KAABOO San Diego’s new look and home, festival organizers are offering general admission passes for $199 and VIP passes priced between $799 and $2,999. Learn more at kaaboosd.com.
