J. Dilla to Be Honored at 3rd Annual Dillatroit Concert

In honor legendary producer, J. Dilla's birthday (Feb. 7), the Dillatroit concert tribute has been taking place in his hometown Detroit for the past three years. This year's tribute concert will feature Jay Electronica, Obie Trice, Willie The Kid, Guilty Simpson and more.
A portion the proceeds from the concert will be donated to the James Dewitt Yancey Foundation, which aims to help fund the development music programs and provide scholarships to students at various music schools.
Today (Feb. 7) Dilla would've turned 44. The influential producer died after a bout with lupus just days after his 32nd birthday, on Feb.10, 2006. His impact on hip-hop is indelible, anchored by rich, soulful beats and an unrivaled ear for samples and breaks.
"Whether you knew him or his work or not, if you press to love real hip hop culture, the hip hop that gives you the feels, it's only right to give all due respect to one the last great creatives this genre has ever given us," Questlove wrote on Twitter earlier today.
Additionally, composter Charlie Cfeen is recreating Dilla's classic Donuts, with a special peformance in Chicago that will feature Chante Cann, soul singers Eryn Allen Kane and Chris Turner, and Grammy Award-winning gospel drummer Robert "Sput" Searight.
As for Dillatroit, the concert will take place on Feb. 11 at The Dime Underground in Detroit. You can purchase tickets to Dillatroit here.
