J. Cole Welcomed By Pro Rwandan Basketball Teammates Ahead Of 1st Game

RWANDA – J. Cole isn’t giving up on his hoop dreams. Earlier this week, the former St. John’s walk-on traveled to Africa to sign a contract with Rwanda’s Patriots B.B.C. team in the Basketball Africa League. Cole is in the process of clearing quarantine ahead of making his debut against team Nigeria on Sunday (May 16).

The North Carolina native posed for a photo at the Patriots facility with one of the members of the team’s personnel staff on Tuesday (May 11) while rocking his Rwanda Patriots gear for the first time.

The Athletic‘s Shams Charania added that Cole is slated to play in about three to six games in the first season of the Basketball Africa League, which boasts 12 teams competing this year. Cole’s debut versus Nigeria will be broadcasted stateside at 7 a.m. ET on ESPNEWS.

Cole has had a busy week with The Off-Season‘s release set for Friday (May 14). He released The Off-Season‘s documentary which gave fans a look at his regimented creative process in the studio. The Dreamville CEO also became the first artist to earn a solo cover of SLAM Magazine.

“Middle Child” producer T-Minus spoke to Complex about how he feels J. Cole is better than ever as a rapper these days and that will be shown with his upcoming album.

“After hearing ‘i n t e r l u d e,’ I was telling him, ‘Bro, it’s crazy. It feels like you’re hitting a prime,” he explained. “These are some of the best bars and writing I’ve heard from you ever in your career,’”
