Ingrid Michaelson channels Stranger Things heroine Eleven on her latest single, "Pretty." Michaelson's upcoming album, Stranger Songs, is an ode to the hit sci-fi series.
"Pretty," out today (June 21), is a slower, slightly more bluesy alternative to Michaelson's other recent singles "Jealous" and "Missing You," but just as catchy. Co-written by Sarah Aarons (Khalid, Maren Morris) and co-written and produced by Alex Hope (Troye Sivan), the track explores themes of feminity and what it really means to be "pretty."
The song's subject matter is inspired by Eleven post-makeover as the character -- raised without conceptions of gender norms -- struggles to understand the meaning of them. "Pretty" has the makings of a feminist anthem with its powerful chorus and relatable lyrics such as, "Rosy cheeks and lips/ She talks but nobody listens/ That's just the way of the world/ I gotta fight like a girl."
