When Iggy Azalea unveiled the music video for her track “Sally Walker,” fans went berserk, partly because Azalea enlisted the help of a number of popular drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Now, it looks like the star is keeping her new friends close.
On Friday (April 5), Azalea took to the stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live! during the host’s weeklong string of shows in Las Vegas to perform “Sally Walker.” But for the opening of her performance, Azalea was nowhere to be seen — instead, Drag Race star Vanessa Vanjie Mateo commanded the audience’s attention, lip-syncing and dancing along as Azalea sang off-screen.
Once Azalea reached the end of her opening, Vanjie dashed off the stage and Azalea emerged from a coffin, dripping in pearls over a red jumpsuit, to perform the rest of the track. Complete with backup dancers, plenty of smoke and some slick dance moves, Azalea clearly entertained the show’s packed crowd.
Vanjie was only one of Azalea’s options for the performance of the track; the drag star appears in the music video along with fellow Drag Race alums Mayhem Miller and Shea Couleé. Azalea even goes as far as to shout out the show’s host in the song, when she raps, “Don’t get your ass dragged like RuPaul.”
