Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs & albums rising on Billboard’s dance charts.
Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano x Bruno Martini feat. Mayra, "Shameless"
Dutch house DJ duo Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, teaming with Sao Paolo native Bruno Martini, debut at No. 33 on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart (dated May 4) with "Shameless," featuring Brazilian singer Mayra (Mayra Arduini). It's the first action on a Billboard songs chart for James and Marciano, whose remixed compilation (with Mync, Carnage, Wayne & Woods) Miami 2014 made it to No. 10 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums and Heatseekers Albums in 2014. For Martini, the track follows "Hear Me Now" (with Alok and Zeeba), which topped Mexico Ingles Airplay for three weeks in late 2016 and hit No. 20 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in 2017. It's also the first Billboard appearance for Mayra.
"Shameless," which follows another collab, "Savages," is securing airplay on core-dance affiliates, led by Music Choice's Dance/EDM channel, SiriusXM's BPM and iHeartRadio's Evolution network (as monitored on WFLZ-HD Tampa, Florida), according to Nielsen Music.
James tells Billboard, "We had such an amazing time working with Bruno and Mayra on 'Savages,' so we were super-excited to work together again on 'Shameless.' We bring out the best in each other."
Martini muses, "When Sunnery, Ryan, Mayra and myself get in the studio, it feels like something magical happens. After we wrote and recorded 'Savages' last year, we found time during last summer's touring to get in the studio again. 'Shameless' was born and it feels like a logical musical progression. There's such a great energy to the song, and the vibe and visuals of the video also really fit with the mood we imagined. It's another dream-team collaboration and we're very proud of it."
TR/ST, The Destroyer – 1
Toronto-originated, Los Angeles-based darkwave electronic act TR/ST (fronted by Robert Alfons) starts at No. 2 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales with The Destroyer – 1. The act's first top 10 is its second entry, following Joyland, which (under previous moniker Trust) landed at No. 12 in 2014. Destroyer, the first of a two-part series, starts with 1,000 copies sold.
TR/ST tells Billboard, "Conceived and recorded over the course of five years in a rural farmhouse and in Los Angeles, it almost felt at times that it would never be completed. I wanted the album to represent the growth and tenacity that was needed to finally present it. I'm deeply appreciative of Maya Postepski's collaboration with me on five of the album's tracks and production and mixing by Lars Stalfors and Damian Taylor. It's such an exhilarating feeling to finally share part one of this album with everyone."
KLAAS & Londonbeat, "I've Been Thinking About You"
Cologne, Germany-based DJ KLAAS (full name Klaas Gerling), teaming with legacy English act Londonbeat (Jimmy Helms, Jimmy Chambers and Charles Pierre, currently), climbs onto Dance Club Songs at No. 37 with "I've Been Thinking About You." The remade classic is the first appearance for KLAAS and the fourth for Londonbeat. The group last showed in 1995, when "Build It With Love" reached No. 2. Londonbeat's other hits both went to No. 1, including "Come Back" "(1995) and the original "Thinking" (1991). The latter track also topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991, sparking Londonbeat's U.S. breakthrough. The new version was remixed by StoneBridge & Damien Hall, Anderson & Thacher and Boulevard East, among others.
