HBO Delivers Debut Trailer For "Watchmen" Television Spinoff

The first trailer for HBO’s Watchmen TV adaptation is upon us. The project, spearhead by Damon Lindelof is slated to debut in the Fall with a re-imagined feel meant to breathe “modernity” into Alan Moore’s comic book blueprint. In Lindelof’s altered universe, the superheroes” are rendered in a compromising light as “outlaws,” while altogether adhering to the story’s major sticking points.

As you’ll see, the HBO trailer isn’t going for enigmatic appeal, as the montage cuts to various and settings to give the viewer a general layout of the film’s mise en scene. Die-hard fans of the iconic graphic novel will likely notice the subtle changes to the characters, at least in appearance.

For one, the “Chief Judd” played by Don Johnson has a short speaking part in the trailer, where he says, “We convinced ourselves that they were gone, but they were just hibernating,” in what seems to be a nod to their outlaw/exiled status. “Angela Abraham” played by Regina King, is also depicted in the promo clip, donning a reflective mask. While a majority of the cast members listed in the show’s production mock-up are hard to make out because Lindelof’s costume design is completely re-imagined as well.

Speaking of which: the remainder of the cast is made up of Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk. Spot them if you can.
