Hayley Kiyoko stopped to chat with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on Monday (Aug. 20) at the 2018 MTV VMAs, talking about performing with Taylor Swift, working with Kehlani and more.
Earlier this month, Kiyoko joined Taylor Swift on stage in Foxborough, Mass. to perform “Curious”. Asked how she prepared for the gig, Kiyoko tells Billboard, “We rehearsed the choreo and she was like, ‘Is this your first time playing a stadium?’ And I was like ‘Yeah! Definitely. This is not normal. You do realize you are a superstar, right?' But it was incredible and she was so kind to me and she’s so smart and it was an amazing experience.”
Kiyoko also reveals that she would love to collaborate with Kehlani again in the future, stating, “I feel like Kehlani and I are gonna be friends forever and we’ll collaborate throughout the years and I really love her.”
The “What I Need” singer also opens up about her friend Demi Lovato, who was recently hospitalized following a reported drug overdose. “I haven’t heard from her], but I wish her the best and she’s a fighter so she will be OK,” Kiyoko says. “I think anyone can have compassion for someone who is struggling and who has got such a big heart and so it’s really hard, with Aretha Franklin] passing away, life is so important and special, and so I wish her the best and I know she’s going to get better.”
