The Broadway singer’s wife revealed that Adelaide Grace passed away on Saturday morning while in hospice.
Hamilton star Miguel Cervantes is mourning the death of his daughter Adelaide. The acclaimed actor, who is currently playing the lead role in the Chicago cast of the Tony-winning historical musical, confirmed the tragic news in a series of tweets in which he and his wife, Kelly, honored their baby's legacy.
"Just wanted you to know that @KellyGC411, Jackson and I are doing ok," he wrote. "We are comforted there are so many people sending positive vibes. WE are seeing all of it and thanks. We will be celebrating her life and legacy soon."
Cervantes also shared a heartbreaking tweet from his wife, in which she posted a photo of Adelaide's empty bed and her stuffed animals in announcing their daughter's passing.
"The machines are off. Her bed is empty. The quiet is deafening. Adelaide left us early Saturday," she wrote. "She went peacefully in my arms, surrounded by love. Finally, she is free from pain + seizures but leaves our hearts shattered. We love you so much Adelaideybug and forever after."
According to WGN, the actor will be taking a short break from the Chicago production of the show, where his cast bio notes that his favorite role is that of "daddy" to son Jackson and Adelaide. Both Miguel and Kelly have spent time raising awareness and support for epilepsy organizations to spur research into the disorder, which sent their daughter to hospice last week. Kelly Cervantes has chronicled the couple's difficult search for treatment for the neuro-degenerative disease that was making Adelaide's brain shrink, as well as the epileptic seizures she suffered during her life.
In a statement to People magazine, the couple said, "The Cervantes family is heartbroken to announce that their baby girl Adelaide Grace passed away early Saturday morning. She was held in the loving arms of her family as she peacefully achieves the ‘calm’ for which they’ve been searching for so long. They would like to extend their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with words of support and prayer and will continue to feel all the love as they go through this difficult time.”
