H.E.R. Delivers Stirring ‘Lord Is Coming’ Performance at the 2019 BET Awards

In February, H.E.R. delivered a knockout performance at the Grammy Awards and took home the trophy for best R&B album. The 21-year-old singer-songwriter had a lot to live up to at the 2019 BET Awards on Sunday night (June 23), and once again did not disappoint.

The performance was built around her track "Lord Is Coming," which includes an extended spoken-word introduction that meditates on modern culture and faith. H.E.R., who wore a gem-encrusted beret, not only exhibited her incisive lyricism but her musical prowess: As she was joined onstage by rapper YBN Cordae for the performance, H.E.R. grabbed an upright bass and plucked away, ultimately returning to the instrument before receiving a standing ovation.

H.E.R. released her self-titled debut album through RCA Records back in October 2017, which included her previously released EPs as well as six additional tracks. She has also worked with artists like Khalid, Ella Mai and Jess Glynne, among others.
