Gwen Stefani stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers on Tuesday (Sept. 24) to chat about returning to The Voice, embracing her role as a coach and why she’s ready to take home the trophy.
After last appearing as a coach in Season 12, Stefani explained during the interview that she’s back with a vengeance this year and gunning to beat fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and boyfriend Blake Shelton.
“This season, I’m going to win,” she told host Seth Meyers. “Generally I’m not a competitive person, but when it comes to the show, I feel like it really does bring it out of me. I basically have lived all of these contestants’ dreams, so I have their dreams in the palm of my hand as far as trying to help them. So it’s just an amazing role to play.”
Wearing a scalloped black halter dress, fishnet stockings and giant thigh-high boots, the pop star also reflected on the differences between the modern music industry and her time coming up as the frontwoman of No Doubt in the ‘90s.
“I say it all the time, I would never make it on The Voice,” she said “It is crazy what they do and the opportunities that they have [are] insane. We had nothing, we were just in the garage — like, literally for nine years — making music we purposely knew was never gonna get on the radio…and then just one day wrote a song called ‘Just a Girl’ that I thought nobody would ever hear, and then it got on the radio!”
Plus, Stefani weighs in on Shelton's former muller hairstyle.
