GLAAD Joins as National Partner for LGBTQ Presidential Forum in Iowa

GLAAD announced on Wednesday (Aug. 27) their new national partnership with the LGBTQ Presidential Forum, an upcoming event where a number of Democratic presidential contenders will discuss important political issues facing the LGBTQ community.

Joining other national partners like One Iowa, The Gazette and The AdvocateGLAAD will be livestreaming the forum their social media channels for viewers at home to see. According to a statement from the organization, additional details regarding "access to the livestream, RSVP logistics, and additional commitments" are still forthcoming.

Taking place at Coe College’s Sinclair Auditorium in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the event has so far booked Joe Biden, Julian Castro, Marianne Williamson and Joe Sestak to participate; the remaining candidates currently campaigning in Iowa have received invitations to the event as well.

"LGBTQ issues and the LGBTQ community have been largely left out of the 2020 presidential primary conversation so far, and this forum will bring these important topics to a national audience for the first time in this election cycle," said GLAAD's CEO and president Sarah Kate Ellis in a statement. "We look forward to hearing how each 2020 candidate will fight for LGBTQ acceptance during this campaign and beyond and, as President, how each of them would repair the damage done to LGBTQ equality and acceptance by the Trump Administration."
