Gerardo Ortiz debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart, as his seventh studio effort, Comeré Callado, Vol. 2: Con Banda arrives at the penthouse on the May 12-dated list. According to Nielsen Music, the set earned 4,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 3. Out those, 3,000 are in traditional album sales.
The album earns Ortiz his eighth chart-topper. Among soloists, he now has the fourth-most No. 1s in the 32-year history the list, trailing only Jenni Rivera (with nine), Joan Sebastian (11) and Vicente Fernandez (17). Leading all acts is Los Tigres del Norte, with 24 No. 1s.
Comeré Callado, Vol. 2 -released DEL/ Sony Music Latin on Apr. 27- follows last year’s Comeré Callado, Vol. 1: Con Norteño, Tuba y Guitarras which also debuted at No. 1 on the Jul. 7, 2017 tally and ruled for 3 weeks total, maintaining in the top 20 for 43 weeks. Vol. 2 includes five new banda version songs that appeared on Vol. 1. However, the new album was preceded only by the first single “El Aroma De Tu Piel” which holds steady at No. 5 on the Regional Mexican Songs airplay chart. It also ascends 32-31 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
Gerardo Ortiz's album's sales start sparks the set to open at No. 1 on the Latin Album Sales chart, earning the 28-year-old his eighth No. 1 on the list. Concurrently, the album debuts at No. 2 on the Top Latin Albums chart — equaling the peak position Comeré Collado, Vol. 1. The last time Ortiz crowned the list was in 2015, when his fifth studio album Hoy Más Fuerte, debuted at No. 1 on the Jun. 6, 2015 -dated chart, ruling for three weeks.
J Balvin Scores 13th Latin Pop Songs Top 10: Over on the Latin Pop Songs airplay chart, J Balvin picks up his 13th top 10 with his new single “Ambiente,” as the song soars 18-9 in its third week (up 20 percent in plays in the week ending May 6).
“Ambiente” is Balvin’s fourth chart entry the year and third single his upcoming album Vibras. It follows “Machika” with Jeon and Anitta and “X” with Nicky Jam, both No. 2-peaking songs.
New Debuts for Jennifer Lopez and Ozuna: Finally, over on the Hot Latin Songs chart — which blends airplay, sales and streams — Jennifer Lopez and Ozuna each notch a new chart entry as the former debuts with “El Anillo” and the latter with “Unica.”
Lopez’ “El Anillo” debuts at No. 12, mostly powered by streams (with 3.4 million) and by downloads (7,000 sold). Her visit to the region follows her first TV live performance the song at the Billboard Latin Awards, which aired on Apr. 26 on Telemundo. The song also debuts at No. 23 on the Latin Airplay chart.
Ozuna’s “Unica” lands at No. 15 on Hot Latin Songs, mostly driven by streams, with 5.5 million clicks. Ozuna has four more songs currently in the top 15: “La Modelo” with Cardi B (No. 9), his featured turn on Riek's “Me Niego,” also featuring Wisin (No. 8), “El Farsante” with Romeo Santos (No. 7) and “Te Boté” alongside Casper Magico, Nio Garcia, Darell, Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny (No. 5).
