What happens when you take dance-pop icon George Michael, rising pop-rap star K.Flay, Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke and legendary actress Emma Thompson and put them all together? The answer is an excellent film trailer.
On Wednesday (Aug. 14), the first official trailer for the upcoming film, Last Christmas, was released. The story follows Kate (Clarke), a young woman working at a Christmas pop-up shop in London who can’t seem to break her own pattern of bad habits. But when she meets the generous Tom (Henry Goulding), she starts to see her life take a turn for the better.
The new trailer shows Kate going about her bitter lifestyle as K.Flay’s “This Baby Don’t Cry” plays in the background (off of her latest album, Solutions). The remainder of the clip, also featuring the film's co-writer Thompson and Michelle Yeoh, uses George Michael’s “Last Christmas” and “Freedom! ‘90” to show the budding romance between Clarke and Goulding’s characters.
The upcoming film heavily features the music of the late Wham! singer, including an unreleased track by Michael. In an interview with BBC News, director Paul Feig said that the new song came off of an album Michael was recording before his death in 2016. “It's a very celebratory song, I would dare say,” he said. “And we were able to play the entire song, which is almost six minutes long, in the film.”
