Ozuna has had a most extraordinary year. His debut album Odisea was released last August and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The album leads the Top Latin Albums chart (dated Aug. 25) for a 45th week, earning the second-most weeks atop the chart (surpassing Selena's Dreaming You).
Now, the young Puerto Rican star has released Aura, a 19-track set that features collabs with Akon, Cardi B and Anuel AA, among others, and spans the scope Ozuna’s brand reggaeton.
Billboard spoke with Ozuna on the eve the album’s release. Here are a few highlights you may have missed.
On why he doesn’t use explicit lyrics: “I feel bad singing music that my children won’t like. But I like listening to that music myself! It’s a problem. But that’s music for you, and we need to respect that. It’s like a video game; if you don’t like it, don’t watch it.”
On tour plans for Aura: Ozuna plans to hit the road Sept. 7, with over 30 arena dates in the U.S. confirmed so far.
On recording with Akon: “It’s easy to work with someone who shares your same work ethic, who likes to create like you do. He doesn’t speak Spanish] perfectly, just as I don’t speak perfect English, but we understand each other.”
On Romeo Santos’ last-minute addition: “He’s on a track titled 'Ibiza.' He came in at the very last minute. Can you imagine going to Romeo and saying, ‘You have two days to record this?’ My brother Romeo. He’s a great artist and a great person. He doesn't fail you.”
