Former Chimaira singer Mark Hunter shared some good news with fans on Monday (Aug. 12), updating them on the his second surgery to deal with thyroid cancer.
"I wanted to say thank you for the thousands of messages I received wishing me well. I read them all," he wrote alongside a selfie from the hospital in which a bandage and sutures can be seen on his throat.
"Keeping y’all informed was the catharsis I needed. I went from freaked out to back to myself almost immediately. So thank you again. 2nd surgery went well. I’m in minor pain but mostly I’m just starving. Like Chris Farley in the SNL “Lay off me I’m starving!!!” skit."
Hunter, 42, revealed on Aug. 1 that he's been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had begun treatment after a doctor discovered a "large mass" in his neck, posting a picture of the aftermath of his first surgery. He said the first procedure involved having half his thyroid removed so doctors could better test the turmor. "The results were positive for Papillary cancer- the most common of thyroid cancers. Luckily, it also has a high cure rate. There is no known cause for this type of cancer, but it's likely genetic. There weren't any symptoms either."
Chimaira broke up in 2014 and briefly reunited in 2017.
