Farruko Debuts On Social 50 Chart, Shawn Mendes Leaps With ‘If I Can’t Have You’ Promo

Plus, Taylor Swift bounds to No. 2, her highest in over a year.

Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Farruko visits the Social 50 chart for the first time, debuting at No. 50 on the list dated May 11.

The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers with artist page views and engagement. The chart's latest tracking week ended May 2.

Farruko bows thanks in large part to a boost of 455% in YouTube subscribers, according to Next Big Sound, after uploading a slew of videos to his account, all of which were animated, to accompany the release of new album Gangalee on April 26.

The most-viewed clip: a video for “Delincuente,” uploaded upon the album’s premiere, featuring Anuel AA and Kendo Kaponi.

Gangalee debuts at No. 2 on the Top Latin Albums ranking with 10,000 equivalent album units earned, according to Nielsen Music. “Delincuente,” meanwhile, starts at No. 36 on Hot Latin Songs.

Above Farruko, Shawn Mendes rockets 33-17 on the Social 50 after promoting the release of new single “If I Can’t Have You” throughout the April 26-May 2 tracking week, prior to its May 3 debut.

Mendes snagged gains in nearly all social media metrics, led by 275,000 Twitter mentions (up 75%) and 165,000 Twitter reactions (a boost of 261%). The pop singer made multiple tweets promoting the song, including one retweeting Niall Horan’s enthusiastic response to the track.

Mendes followed the promo with an appearance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live on May 4.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift blasts 13-2 to earn her first week in the top two of the Social 50 since the tally dated Dec. 2, 2017. No surprise as to why; she earned 1.2 million Twitter mentions, a boost of 361%, along with 765,000 new YouTube subscribers as she premiered new single “Me!,” featuring Brendon Urie, on April 26, her first taste of new music since the music from 2017’s Reputation.

The 13-2 jump followed two previous weeks of gains for the singer while she teased the new era on social media.
