‘April, and a Flower’ is the highest-charting effort from a K-pop soloist in months.
Both with his group and as a solo star, Chen becomes the second member of EXO to prove he is a force on the Billboard charts this week.
The 26-year-old vocalist sends his first-ever solo release April, and a Flower: The 1st Mini Album to No. 3 on the World Albums chart. The six-song set sold 1,000 copies in the week ending April 4, according to Nielsen Music. The strong debut makes Chen the highest new entry of four album debuts on the chart this week.
With his No. 3 debut on World Albums, Chen is the highest-charting solo K-pop act since November 2018 and the first solo star to chart this high in 2019. As groups tend to reign over World Albums more than soloists, only six solo singers hit No. 3 or higher on World Albums last year making Chen's No. 3 entry in April a rare victory for an individual K-pop stars.
The ballad-focused EP also bows on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, a tally far fewer K-pop acts reach, entering at No. 7.
Chen is the second EXO member to release a solo project following Lay who has sent four titles to World Albums' Top 10 to date. Chen and Lay continue the band's strong history on the World Albums chart with EXO's four No. 1 albums making them one of the acts with the most chart-toppers ever.
