Last week's edition of Emerging Hip-Hop/R&B showcased Joyner Lucas' resurgence and the continued success of Afro B's banger "Joanna." This week, we highlight DaBaby's startling Hot 100 success and the debut of Beast Coast on a major chart.
DaBaby's "Suge" Reaches Top 10 on Billboard Hot 100
This week, DaBaby continues his campaign push for 2019 Rookie of the Year with his blistering single "Suge." After nine weeks on the Hot 100, this week "Suge" glides into the top 10, moving to No. 9. The song also makes strides on our Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart, hitting a new peak this week at No. 5.
"Suge's" steady climb on the charts has allowed new listeners to fall in love with the North Carolina star's jocular approach. Because of his recent success with his project Baby on Baby, which has also spawned electric singles "Baby Sitter" and "Goin Baby," DaBaby has since earned himself a slot opening for 21 Savage's i am > i was tour, beginning this summer.
Beast Coast Debuts at No. 2 on the Emerging Artists Chart
Earlier this year, three Brooklyn rap groups — Pro Era (Joey Bada$$, Nyck Caution, Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, Powers Pleasent), Flatbush Zombies (Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, Erick the Architect) and The Underachievers (Issa Gold and AK the Savior) — united to form a supergroup called Beast Coast.
After releasing their debut album Escape From New York last month, which includes their sinister single "Left Hand" and the elastic "Rubberband," Beast Coast debuts at No. 2 on Billboard's Emerging Artists Chart this week. Although they missed out on their performance at Governor's Ball due to inclement weather, the 10-man juggernaut will add a New York show to their already robust summer tour schedule.
