After highlighting chart surges from City Girls, Lil Tjay and YK Osiris last week on Emerging Hip-Hop, this week, a pair of Roc Nation stars get featured for their respective chart climbs.
Angelica Vila Pays Homage to Shyne's With New Single "More in the Morning"
If you remember, Shyne had the hip-hop world on tilt with his late '90s single "Bonnie & Shyne," featuring reggae star Barrington Levy. On her new track "More in the Morning," Vila deftly samples the summer tune and injects the record with her honeyed vocals. Produced by Cool & Dre, the tropical track shoots from No. 45 to No. 33 on our R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
“The response that I’m getting with ‘More in the Morning’ is very inspirational and motivational to me because that just proves to me that anything can happen just as long as you’re willing to put the work in," Vila tells Billboard e-mail. "Thoughts become things, and if you speak it into the world, the world will manifest. This pushes me to work harder and smarter. I am grateful to have such a great team with RNG, Roc Nation and Republic Records.”
Nicole Bus Continues to Flourish With "You"
Bus remains an active player on the Billboard charts due to her mesmerizing single "You." The sultry record highlights the singer's soaring vocal abilities: Think Lauryn Hill meets Teyana Taylor, with a hint of Jazmine Sullivan. Not only does "You" sit at No. 4 on the Adult R&B Songs chart, but the song continues to percolate on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart after 20 weeks of action. Because of the song's success, Bus has released two separate remixes including features from Rick Ross and Ghostface Killah, respectively.
