Dreamville Rappers Storm Emerging Artists Chart, Thanks to No. 1 HipHopMagz 200 Debut

J.I.D., Lute, Young Nudy & EarthGang all surge.

Powered by Dreamville Records' new compilation album with J. Cole, Revenge of the Dreamers III, which debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 (dated July 20) with 115,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music, four rappers from the set reach the Emerging Artists chart.

East Atlanta rapper J.I.D. places highest among the quartet on Emerging Artists, as he re-enters at a new No. 20 high. J.I.D. (real name: Destin Route) appears on six tracks on the 18-track album: "Down Bad," with J. Cole, Bas, EarthGang and Young Nudy; "Wells Fargo," with EarthGang, Buddy and Guapdad 4000; "Ladies, Ladies, Ladies," with T.I.; "Costa Rica," with Bas, Guapdad 4000, Reese LaFlare, Jace, Mez, Smokepurpp, Buddy and Ski Mask the Slump God; "1993," with Buddy, Smino, Cozz, EarthGang and J. Cole; and "Rembrandt…Run It Back," with J. Cole and Vince Staples.

Of J.I.D.'s six credits, "Down Bad" and "Costa Rica" reach the Billboard Hot 100, at Nos. 64 and 75, respectively.

J.I.D. previously spent two weeks on Emerging Artists in December 2018 following the release of his sophomore LP, DiCaprio 2.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based rapper Lute (real name: Luther Nicholson) debuts on Emerging Artists at No. 27, fueled by a pair of credits on Revenge of the Dreamers III: "Under the Sun," with J. Cole and DaBaby, and "Sleep Deprived," with Omen, Mez and DaVionne. The former debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 44.

Atlanta rapper Young Nudy (Quantavious Thomas) bows at No. 31 on Emerging Artists, on the strength of two credits on the album: "Down Bad" and "Sunset," with J. Cole. Nudy has landed two mixtapes on the Billboard 200: Slimeball 3 (No. 146, August 2018) and Sli'merre, with Pi'erre Bourne (No. 63 this May).

Lastly, Atlanta hip-hop/soul duo EarthGang debuts on Emerging Artists at No. 41, thanks to five billings on Dreamers III: "Down Bad," "Swivel," "Wells Fargo," "1993" and "Sacrifices," with J. Cole, Smino and Saba.

The tandem of Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot reached Billboard's charts once before, with its 2017 EP Rags, which hit No. 16 on Heatseekers Albums. The pair also co-founded the musical collective Spillage Village with J.I.D., Hollywood JB, JordxnBryant, 6LACK and Mereba.

Atop Emerging Artists, Lewis Capaldi leads for a second week, as his breakout single "Someone You Loved" reaches the Hot 100's top 40, jumping 46-36. The ballad debuts on both Radio Songs (No. 42; 26.8 million impressions, up 27%) and Streaming Songs (No. 50; 11.3 million U.S. streams, up 4%).

Rounding out the Emerging Artists top five, City Girls hold at No. 2, Lil Tecca rises 4-3, Pinkfong pushes 5-4 and YK Osiris dips 3-5.
