The government doesn't play about its money. It's a lesson more hip-hop industry folks would do well to realize.
To that end, Drake's ex-manager, Derrick Lawrence, one the founders Aspire Music Group, the label/management team that solely pushes Drake, has been sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion.
Lawrence had pled guilty to not filing tax returns for 2009-2011.
“It was never a disrespect to the government. It was a lack knowledge,” Lawrence told the judge on Monday, according to NYDailyNews. “It’s my fault for not following up with my accountants who I hired."
In addition to his sentence, he'll have to pay $600K in back taxes.
In other news that's directly related to Drake, the rapper scored his longest running No. 1 hit ever with "Gods Plan." The song debuted in the to spot back in January, and has remained there. It's now one week ahead his last No. 1 hit, 2016’s “One Dance."
Most recently, Drake dropped the video for his new song, "Nice For What," which has garnered much praise for its celebration women since it dropped over the weekend. The video features a slew beautiful celebrity women, from Tracee Ellis Ross to Tiffany Haddish, Oli Wilde, Emma Roberts, Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi and Misty Copeland among others.
