‘Drag Race’ Star Shangela Will Host the GLAAD Media Awards in New York

For Shangela Laquifa Wadley, life after her three appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race has been bountiful. The drag performer acted alongside Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, was featured on Ariana Grande’s “NASA,” and is now gearing up for her first hosting gig.

On Thursday (April 11), GLAAD announced that Shangela will host this year’s GLAAD Media Awards gala in New York City. The queen will join an already star-studded event, including the night’s honorees Madonna and Andy Cohen, along with special guests Sarah Jessica Parker, the cast of FX’s Pose and more.

“I AM SO GRATEFUL AND SO EXCITED FOR THIS,” Shangela tweeted following the announcement. “Hostess Fish! And it’s going to be televised on @LogoTV! AND did u see that both @Andy [Cohen] & @Madonna are being honored, among others! Time to turn this OUT!”

The announcement comes just after Shangela made a splash at the GLAAD Media Awards in L.A. With Beyoncé in attendance to accept the GLAAD Vanguard Award with Jay-Z, the drag star took to the stage at the event to perform a show-stopping lip sync medley to Beyoncé’s discography.

The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will take place at the New York Hilton Midtown on May 4, and will be broadcast on Logo starting May 12.
