DJ Khaled showed up to Saturday Night Live's season finale on May 18 with a VIP entourage who joined him to perform two medleys of new material from his new album, Father of Asahd.
"They said I'd never do SNL, so I'm doing [the] SNL finale!" Khaled declared before uttering his trademark intro: "Another one." For his first turn on stage, Khaled tapped a fur coat-sporting Lil Wayne and Big Sean for "Jealous." (Chris Brown, who also features on the track, wasn't present.)
"Jealous" quickly segued into the moody and lovelorn "You Stay," which gathered Jeremih, J Balvin, Meek Mill and Lil Baby under a purple spotlight. Once each rapper or crooner had wrapped their verse, Khaled addressed the crowd and the cameras with a simple send-off: "Summer starts now."
For his second SNL round, Khaled — who came out wearing a sweatshirt bearing the face of Nipsey Hussle, his dearly departed friend and collaborator — got another assist from Meek Mill, as well as SZA and John Legend, and offered up a tribute to Hussle, too.
After a false start, a piano spun around with SZA perched atop it, who gorgeously sang over an interpolation of OutKast's "Miss Jackson for "Just Us." Meek Mill changed the tone up when he burst out for "Weather the Storm," and the piano spun around once again to reveal John Legend, who sang the gospel-tinged "Higher" beneath a neon rendition of Nipsey Hussle's face in profile.
