Death Cab for Cutie announced the release date their next studio album Wednesday (June 13). Thank You For Today, the indie rock veterans' ninth full-length to date, is slated to drop August 17 and is available for preorder now. The news follows two teasers on YouTube and Twitter that hinted Ben Gibbard and company had something up their sleeves.
Along with the announcement, Death Cab have gifted fans the first ficial taste the LP with the breezy, piano-brimming single "Gold Rush" and its accompanying video, which follows frontman Gibbard frustratedly strolling through increasingly packed city streets. The bittersweet tune will get its late night debut performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on June 21.
Thank You For Today features production and mixing by Rich Costley, who also worked his magic on Death Cab's successful 2015 effort, Kintsugi.
Support for the new album will come by way a North American headlining tour this fall with opener Charly Bliss, beginning September 24 at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon, and following with intimate performances along both coasts. One dollar from each ticket benefits The Aurora Commons, a Seattle non-prit that provides "a welcoming space for our unhoused neighbors to rest, prepare a meal, connect to resources and collectively create a healthy and vibrant community."
