Last week, a horrific shooting occurred at Parkland High School, which left 17 people dead and countless others injured as a result. The assailant has since been identified as 19 year-old Nikolas Cruz, who may now receive the death penalty for his heinous crimes.
Shortly after the incident, news reporters interviewed David Hogg, a 17 year-old student who was lucky to escape the murder-spree unscathed. Hogg openly pleaded to the public, especially lawmakers, that stricter gun control laws need to be seriously considered in the wake this massacre. However, the Internet, which has become a breeding ground for trolls and pessimism alike, has begun to spin conspiracy theories about the teen, claiming that he is a “crisis actor.” What is that you may ask? According to a few knowledgable Twitter accounts, Hogg is considered to be a spokesperson lobbying for gun control, travelling to shooting sites to spew his leftist opinions on national television.
Hogg has also been accused being coached by his father, a former FBI agent, to speak out against Donald Trump. This allegation even received a blessing from Donald Trump Jr., who recently liked a tweet that proclaimed this conspiracy.
Just yesterday, Hogg was interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper, and has since debunked all these allegations that have painted his words in a negative light. “Unlike the people who are tweeting that stuff about me and my dad, I haven’t lost hope in America and my dad hasn’t either,” the teenager admits.
Hogg goes on to reveal how he’s “not a crisis actor. I’m someone who had to witness this and live through this and I continue to be having to do that.” The survivor ultimately proclaims that “we have a right to live just as we have a right to bear arms.”
