Dave East is the latest rapper to step into the always-unpredictable Bumbu Roomto answer an array of fan-submitted questions. The Harlem native's episode, which premieres with Billboard on Wednesday (March 20), finds the 30-year-old MC dishing on his hopes to work with JAY-Z, his favorite kicks of all-time, eventually wanting a son, and muting R. Kelly after viewing the haunting Surviving R. Kelly docuseries.
East was asked for his definition of "mumble rap," and the gritty MC went on to degrade the quality of the trendy rapping style currently running rampant in hip-hop. "The definition would be no thought process behind it," he explained. "There's not really any care. That was something that got popular against lyricism when people were taking time to really put something worthwhile hearing out."
Even though the "Perfect" rapper is already a father of one, he hopes to one day give his daughter Kairi a brother. "I want a son," he proclaimed. "I feel like Kairi's going to beef with me over that. I [already] have a brother, and I want to see how it is to raise a son."
The Mass Appeal signee also got animated and brutally honest when the allegations made in Lifetime's Surviving R. Kelly become the topic of discussion.
"I actually sat and watched it and I think he's sick. I think R. Kelly is twisted, sick-minded, nasty, perverted -- he different. I don't know anybody like R. Kelly. I was a big fan of his music up until I saw it," East admitted. "I realized all of the songs I loved was about little girls. None of these records sound the same. I'm not feeling R. Kelly. And I got a daughter, so I'm super not jacking R. Kelly at all."
