Daniel Johnston, the eccentric singer-songwriter famously profiled in the 2006 documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston, died Tuesday night following a heart attack, according to The Austin Chronicle. He was 58 years old.

The songwriting genius had been suffering from a number of health issues in recent years, including depression and schizophrenia, as well as diabetes, a kidney infection and hydrocephalus.
