Exclusive – CyHi The Prynce has been one of Kanye West’s most frequent collaborators over the years, be it guest appearances or working as a songwriter. During the height of Kanye and Drake’s beef in September 2021, Drizzy leaked a version of Ye’s “Life of the Party,” where Kanye rapped about CyHi saying Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” was the biggest song he ever wrote.

“CyHi told me to my face that ‘Sicko Mode’ was his biggest song,” Kanye says on the track. “Well go’n ’cause Donda was the best ghostwriter I ever had.”

During a recent interview with HipHopDX, CyHi The Prynce opened up about Kanye West’s line about him and how Drake wasn’t even on “Sicko Mode” at the time he was working on it with Travis Scott.

“Rap is his personal diary,” he said about Kanye. “So however he interpreted it, that’s how he interpreted it. We were just in the room strategically talking about how we were gonna put out songs. I was just giving people my perspective of like, ‘Yo, I’ve had this feeling on certain records before, i.e. ‘Sicko Mode,’” and it went crazy. But you know how it is, they have friendly competition, so he was probably like, ‘Nah, this is the biggest!’”

He continued, “I guess when I wrote it, it made Drake get on the song. But like I said, those guys man, they’re all extremely talented. When people say, ‘Are you a ghostwriter?’ – it’s not like I’m writing a song for someone who doesn’t know how to do it themselves. They’re telling you like, ‘Yo, I wanna say this, I want the cadence to go like this, I wanna do this.’

“And in Travis’ defense, he had just had mouth surgery that day. So we were actually there kind of writing it together and I would just lay it for him so he could hear it.”

CyHi The Prynce spoke more about his songwriting process and how big rappers don’t have time to spend every minute in the studio working on music.

“‘Cause sometimes, even with me, I lay a rough or a skeleton and that’ll let me know if I need to finish it or a scrap it,” he said. “To be honest man, them dudes be rich as shit. They ain’t got time to be sitting there doing five, six, 12 different versions to see if it’s right. ‘Man, I’ve got so much going on, I’ve got shows, I’ve got merch, I’ve got family, I’m living my best life, I ain’t got time to be sitting in no studio all day trying to figure out.’”

He added, “With the ‘So Appalled’ verse, I wrote the rap there ’cause I needed to make sure that I was part of the situation. So that’s for every other artist or songwriter – don’t be scared to take your shot.”
