Courtney Act has been pushing boundaries ever since she first appeared on season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, from winning Celebrity Big Brother UK to submitting her own song to represent Australia in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. But in her most recent appearance, the drag star made history -- and she wasn’t even in drag.
During the latest episode of Dancing With the Stars: Australia, on which Act is a contestant, the star performed a number with her partner Joshua Keefe out of drag, making it the first time in the show’s history that two men (who presented male) performed a number together.
The pair, now including Courtney’s boy persona Shane Janek, performed a sultry foxtrot to a stripped-down cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” The judges were clearly impressed with their stellar performance of the song, granting them a near-perfect score of 29 out of 30.
Act posted a clip of her performance on Instagram to commemorate the historic occasion. “Two boys dancing together on Dancing With the Stars,” she wrote, just after the performance aired. “First time in the Anglosphere! So honoured to have the opportunity and amazing to do it with @joshuakeefedancer!”
Shortly after posting the message, it was revealed that Act and Keefe had earned enough fan votes to progress to the show’s finale, making them one of three pairs to do so. “THANK YOU FOR VOTING FOE [sic] US THIS WEEK,” Act wrote in her updated caption. “IT FEELS AMAZING TO BE IN THE FINAL 3!”
