Sometimes when a relationship ends, the memory of your ex still seeps in when you least expect it. But in the minds of the Avenue Beat girls, those kind of heartbreaks are best cured by simply living your life -- which is exactly what they do in the video for their song "Ruin That For Me."
Avenue Beat premieres their latest video on Billboard today (Oct. 22), and it's all about having a good time. The three-minute clip sees the trio (Savana Santos, Sam Backoff and Sami Bearden) dancing, fishing and cruising around a farm in a golf cart. While Santos suggests the high-spirited video -- which she directed and Avenue Beat produced together -- is more about highlighting the girls' quirky personalities, it matches the carefree sentiment of "Ruin That For Me" perfectly.
The song was born out of a breakup Backoff went through in high school. "After we had ended things, I was trying to decide what to wear one day and pulled out a dress that he had told me was his favorite. I remember thinking 'Oh my gosh, I can’t wear this dress, it’s ruined now!' But then I realized that he can’t ruin that for me."
Bearden had a similar experience with her high school boyfriend, who drove a Toyota Prius. "Instead of letting him ruin that for me, I now exclusively date guys with a Prius," she quips. "Check and mate."
Clearly all three of the Avenue Beat ladies are unfazed by their exes, which is exactly what they declare in the "Ruin That For Me" chorus: "I'm still doin' what I like/ Just 'cause you said goodbye/ Ain't gonna change my life."The rising country stars -- who met in their hometown of Quincy, Ill., seven years ago -- released the song as part of their debut self-titled EP in July, just days after announcing their signing with Big Machine Label Group.
