2022 HipHopDX Rising Star Coi Leray is finally ready to release some new music. The “TWINNEM” rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday (January 25) to announce her forthcoming single “Anxiety” will drop on Friday (January 28).

The announcement alone was enough to excite both SZA and Fivio Foreign. While the latter dropped a fire emoji to show his support, the R&B singer sang her praises in the comments, complimenting the cover art as she conveyed her excitement.

“Art going crazy,” SZA wrote with a flurry of heart emojis. “So excited for this song.”

The announcement comes as Coi Leray continues to tease her debut album. On Sunday (January 23), she revealed her forthcoming record would have 18 tracks via the viral money challenge.

“My album gonna have 18 songs,” she wrote in the caption. The photo, a contribution to the social media movement instigated by NBA YoungBoy and Lil Durk’s current feud, featured dollar bills strewn all over Leray’s hardwood floors spelling out her nickname “Big Trendsetter.”

Despite being a so-called trendsetter, Leray has continued to deal with online harassment in 2022. Recently, she was compared to fellow female rapper DeJ Loaf on Twitter and quickly pushed back at these comparisons. On January 19, the 24-year-old responded to a Twitter user who compared her style and flow to the Detroit native.

“Maybe it’s the tomboy stud vibe we have in common.., but we do not sound alike,” she wrote in part. “From ‘No More Parties’ to ‘Big Prrdd’ and ‘Twinnem’ n-gga you cannot tell me we sound alike.”

Getting trolled isn’t a new experience for the 2022 HipHopDX Rising Star. Leray was insulted online throughout 2021 for her body weight and performance style. Leray said she hoped to leave behind the body shaming behavior in the new year.

“Don’t madder how natural she is, who her doctor is, if she has curves, cellulite, big small, round square, let’s just make it a priority to spread love and worry the fuck about yourself,” she wrote in the caption. “Yuh. 2022 I’m excited.”
