Clairo, whose album Immunity was released earlier this month, is Apple Music's latest Up Next artist, joining a class of emerging talent that includes previous picks Tierra Whack, 6LACK, Juice WRLD, H.E.R., Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, Khalid and Daniel Caesar. Up Next is Apple Music's monthly program that aims to identify, showcase and elevate rising talent.
Apple Music releases a short film shot on an iPhone XS and a Beats 1 interview to introduce its Next Up choice. The program also gives the selected artist the opportunity to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Clairo is scheduled to appear on the late-night show on Sept. 5.
"I'm so grateful to be a part of Apple Music's Up Next program,” Clairo said in a statement. “Immunity is my best work yet and I’m excited to keep growing and evolving as an artist."
In an interview with Beats 1's Matt Wilkinson, Clairo discussed her early musical influences and the beginnings of her songwriting journey.
"People like that I can relate to them," she said. "That's my number one thing that I want to maintain, that I want to be a friend to the people who are listening to the music and I want them to feel comfortable."
"There's no point in making a record if it isn't personal," Clairo added later in clip, speaking of her song "Sofia."
