K-pop soloist Chung Ha released “Love U,” a vivacious tropical house song, on Wednesday (July 19).
Her third single since going solo last year after her time in temporary girl group I.O.I came to an end, the breezy “Love U” is guided by fizzy synths and bright melodies as Chung Ha expresses her desire. “I just wanna, wanna love you,” she croons during the chorus.
Upon the song’s release, the 22-year-old addressed the similarities between “Love U” and her debut single, last year’s “Why Don’t You Know,” both which feature bright tropical synths, light use strings, and tinny beats. According to the Korea Herald, she said the new song is more reflective her girlish side than the charisma she showcased with her forthright debut song.
In the music video for "Love U," Chung Ha is seen reflecting on the passion that she feels and wishing upon falling stars and glowing stones as she dreams her romance. Much the song is relayed as the singer spends time looking into the camera, ostensibly acting as the perspective her beloved, roaming around looking at nature, and performing the song's vibrant, hip-shaking choreography.
“Love U” fronts Chung Ha’s Blooming Blue EP, which is her third EP; January's Offset landed the singer at No. 13 on the World Albums chart. Blooming Blue features a total five tracks including the sweet album closer "From Now On," co-written by soloist Baek Yerin.
Chung Ha will be appearing in Los Angeles next month at the Korean pop culture convention and music festival KCON 2018 LA, where she'll perform on Aug.12.
