For someone only two years into her career, Chung Ha has done a lot: As one the winners the first season the South Korean competition show Produce 101, she saw immense popularity as a member the temporary girl group I.O.I and has since gone on to be a chart-topping soloist in her own right with her breezy brand vivacious dance tracks.
A skilled dancer and singer, she recently released her Blooming Blue album and performed some her songs — plus a cover dance set to Ariana Grande's "God is a Woman"– at KCON 2018 LA, where she sat down with Billboard to discuss her career.
Unlike most young K-pop stars, Chung Ha had a unique opportunity to be part a prominent girl group and then pursue music on her own. "I get to know my voice more, and then I get to put my choreo into it more," the 22-year-old says about how she's been able to explore her own style as a soloist.
About her latest single “Love U,” Chung Ha says it’s a “pool party” song, which suits her perfectly. “It has a summer vibe. It's summer. I love partying, I love to party." She also shows f some her heart-shaped choreography.
