Chrissy Teigen Leaves Snapchat Following Tone-Deaf Rihanna Ad


Snapchat has lost another celebrity following the tone-deaf ad that playfully referenced the domestic abuse Rihanna suffered at the hands ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. Chrissy Teigen announced on Twitter Saturday that she has "stopped using Snap." The model and television personality cited the "Rihanna poll" as a determining factor in her departure from the platform, as well as the app's divisive new redesign and the fact that her fans have had trouble finding her through the search function.

Rihanna spoke out against Snapchat shortly after the tasteless ad surfaced. After requesting that her fans delete the app in protest, Snap reportedly saw a decrease $800 million in market value over two days, while the CEO the company saw a loss $150 million from his net worth. 

Prior to the controversy, Kylie Jenner, the most followed user on the platform, similarly tweeted that she rarely opens the app anymore. Following her tweet, Snap's stock reportedly fell 6%, losing the company $1.3 billion in market value. As Teigen just announced her departure from Snapchat this morning, we will not know whether or not her tweet will affect the company's stock for at least a day or two. 

Thankfully, Teigen will continue to use Twitter, where she has nearly 10 million followers and regularly delivers top-notch jokes. She'll also continue to post on Instagram, where she has over 16 million followers.
